Employment Contracts
Employment contracts in Niger are generally written in the local language. Employment contracts can be for a fixed or indefinite term. Fixed-term contracts have a maximum duration of two years and can only be renewed once. Additionally, there are employment contracts for seasonal and temporary work, which can be renewed an unlimited number of times if agreed upon by both parties.

Compensation
Employers are not required to provide bonuses to their employees. Niger has a minimum wage.
Working Hours
Normal workings hours in Niger varies by industry and generally starts at 42 hours a week. Overtime is paid at 110% of the basic rate for hours between 42 to 48 and then 135% after 48 hours. The overtime rises to 150% if the work occurs on a Sunday or Public Holiday and 200% for evening work.
Vacation Leave
Employees receive 22 days of paid vacation leave each year.
Sick Leave
Employees receive five days of fully paid sick leave per year.
Maternity / Paternity Leave
Female employees receive 14 weeks of fully paid maternity leave. Six weeks must be taken prior to the child’s birth, which can be increased by three weeks for medical reasons. Maternity leave is funded by both the employer and social security. Male employees receive a day of paid paternity leave.
Employment Termination/Severance
An employment contract can terminate at the end of the contract period (if for a fixed period) or be terminated by either party. Employers generally must have a valid reason for terminating an employee. The termination must be in writing and the employee is entitled to notice.
Employees are entitled to severance pay if they have at least one year of service, unless dismissed for misconduct.
